Served as Deputy Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea 1976, 1985, 1992-1994)

Served as Minister of Finance 1972-1977, 1985-1986, 1992-1994.

Elected Prime Minister on two separate occasions, 1980-1982 and 1994-1997.

Received Knighthood of the British Empire and appointed member of the Privy Council in 1981 by Her Majesty the Queen.

Since 2007 has been the Regional Member for the province of New Ireland and Governor of the province.

Proud Old Boy of Marist Ashgrove and chose to launch his memoir, Playing the Game, at the College in 2016. Sir Julius’ three sons are also Old Boys of the College.
