Paul Ditchburn

Served as a member of the Victoria Police Force from 17 December 1973, graduating as Dux of a double squad, retiring after 32 years, 6 months at the rank of Superintendent.

Awarded the Australian Police Medal, National Medal 1st Clasp and Victoria Police Service Medal, 4th Clasp.

Served in various uniform, CIB and research roles, and even attended the FBI National Academy, Quantico, Virginia for eleven weeks in 1996.

An inaugural member of the Court of Appeal from 2005, following its establishment as a separate division of the Supreme Court.

Completed the two-year Royal Commission into the collapse of the HIH Insurance group in April 2003.

In July 2003, started the three-year hearing into Alan Bond's Bell group of companies - one of the nation's longest-running and most expensive civil actions.

Adjunct Professor of Law and visiting lecturer in law at both University of Western Australia and the University of Notre Dame Australia.

Served as Chairperson and CEO of the Queensland Crime and Misconduct Commission in 2010-2011.

Justice Moynihan’s judgment in the Mabo case as a Queensland Supreme Court Judge gathered crucial local information to the Murray Islander’s case of native title and was key to the High Court decision in 1992 that led to the Native Title Act (1993) which created a framework that recognises Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have rights and interests in certain land because of their traditional laws and customs.

Justice Moynihan’s 2008 Review of the civil and criminal justice system in Queensland report led to the Civil Criminal Jurisdiction Reform and Modernisation Amendment Act 2010 which contains the first stages of the Queensland government’s response to the report.

Appointed a Judge of the District Court (Qld) in 2019, was a Magistrate 2012-2014, the Deputy Chief Magistrate 2014-2019 and Chief Magistrate 2019-2022.
